As someone who teaches people about economics on a daily (or nightly) basis, I’m always on the lookout for a good object lesson, especially one that demonstrates a fundamental difference of principle between the “collectivist” and the “Free Market” outlook. And it would certainly be hard to pass up on the (Frank-Dodd) “Financial Reform” bill, sponsored by two of the most corrupt people in congress, as just such a lesson. |

So, it seems that the Democrats of South Carolina have duly nominated, as their Senate candidate, a man with no job, no money, no campaign organization, and (the less charitable might say) no clue. And everyone’s trying to figure out how this could have happened. Leaving aside crackpot theories wherein the Republicans secretly inserted an unemployed non-entity into the Democratic primary and mysteriously compelled everyone to vote for him, there seem to be four factors that contributed to this interesting situation: |

It’s refreshing to see that the main Stream media is actually taking a serious look at an Obama administration scandal. Unlike the “Messiah” of two years ago, today’s all too human Obama is actually being held to some ethical standards (if by “held to” you mean “caught by”). His tampering with Democratic primaries by offering jobs to induce inconvenient candidates to drop out is clearly illegal. But anyone paying attention has long since figured out that all of Obama can be divided in three parts: He’s one part leftist fanatic, one part incompetent novice and one part “Chicago-level” Corrupt. (I’ve given up trying to figure out which “third” predominates.) But, the REAL issue, and the REAL scandal is being overlooked by almost everyone. |

We now know that the Obama administration is a crude mixture consisting of about one third incompetence, one third corruption and one third left-wing fanaticism. Each of these traits has been detectible since the beginning of Obama’s brief tenure on the public stage. Each is now readily apparent to any American serious enough to pay attention. It is also clear that this mixture is unpalatable to the broad majority of Americans. Indeed, no President (perhaps no comparable leader) has ever squandered so much good will so quickly. |

It’s been a week since Obama’s great speech to Congress on healthcare reform and, according to Rasmussen, his post-speech “bounce’ in the polls is already fading. But I’m sure he’ll give another speech soon enough. In all fairness, I think that Obama does actually represent what is best about socialism: The speeches. |
